What do they believe-Part 3
Scientology isn't really a religion in that it doesn't have any sort of defined views about God, but rather a system of Physchological thought. It's defining tenets include as laid out in the book Dianetics, which is considered their Bible.
...A claim to heal all mental or physical illness. Bad things happen in Scientology because of Engrams which are memories or thoughts of bad events that have happened in a past life. These Engrams are the source of all the bad that happens in this life. These Engrams develop from past lives, and pre-birth experiences of this life. So what needs to happen is these Engrams need to be contacted, so that they can be experienced in the present. This here by puts to death their impact in the past. One the Engram is erased so will all negative effects that goes with it. This process is done by Auditors, who work with the patient one on one.
...A claim to greatly increase one's IQ.
...They have been in battle with the Psychiatry since the publishing of Dianetics, due to the fact that the mind can cure all illness.
Thier beliefs are somewhat theological only in that they have been shaped by sources such as Buddhism and Confusiainism.
They believe that every human being is a Thetan(Soul) with infinite powers. Each Thetan has a mind bank which contains Engrams, which keep one from fully realizing thier potential. These Engrams are erased through their physcological thearpy. No Thetan has ever been fully realized in human history. Once one becomes an operating Thetan(The Highest Level of Perfection), they can soul travel, and explore their past lives. So to get to these higher level one must go through various states of consiciousness. When one is totally without Engrams they become "Clear", like Jesus and Buddha where they have uncanny abilities to see the World.
