Heresy Watch-

Heresy Watch-

Yesterday I was at an Text Study. Where one of the Pastors wanted to preach this week comparing Jesus' baptism to our baptism. Only problem is Jesus was baptized under the Old Covenant to fulfill all righteousness to become a preist (Ex 29:4, MT 3:15), so he could offer the perfect sacrifice for sin (Hebrews 5, Hebrews 6;20). When I pointed this out to him, he couldn't really respond, but wanted to keep preaching this anyway. I then had to distunigh between John's Baptism and the Sacrament of Baptism established by Jesus (Acts 19:1-7). In simplicity, Jesus Baptism in nowhere near our Baptism since A. Jesus lived a life without sin B. Baptism involves the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38-39, Titus 3:5-6) C. Jesus established the sacrament of Baptism after his death and resurrection for the forgiveness of our sins (Matthew 28:19)

But more troubling was the blatant promotion of adoptionism. The idea that at Jesus' baptism was when he was "adopted" or "became" the Son of God. This idea which was condemned as heresy by Pope Victor I . But one must adapt an adoptionist view of Jesus if one denies the "Virgin Birth" or almost be forced to deny Christ's divinity outright, as some theological liberals do.
