Here is the last of my reports on Cults, this is taken from a Paper I wrote.
The Font is a bit off.
What do Mormons believe?
- They believe in a third testament called the Book of Mormon. This is because of a
revelation to Joseph Smith by the Angel Moroni in the year 1827. Mormons according
to Gospel Principles on pages 52-53 believe that the Book of Mormon is the most
correct book on Earth. It also believes that the Bible must be correctly
translated. The Mormons also regard Doctrines and Covenants and The Price of the
Great Pearl as authoritative.
-Works righteousness salvation. The book Gospel Principles describes Salvation as
such on page 19. Mormons will speak of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. But they
also will speak of salvation as series of our own requirements that must be meant,
so that we are made more like God. To read there view of salvation, one must consult
non-canonical books like Abraham, Ether, and Moses, translated by Joseph Smith.
Mormons believe the faith is a progression towards God the Father, as stated on page
24 of Gospel Principles Mormons believes in a great celestial battle that has taken
place between God’s two sons, Jesus and Satan. This battle occurred after Jesus was
chosen to show the World how to live the path to salvation. Mormons believe that
three were three choices in this great heavenly battle. One-third chose Jesus, and
then they came down from heaven in Mortal bodies to witness to the truth. One-third
chose Satan, and they came down to try to blaspheme the truth as spirits. Another
third stayed neutral and as the Gospel Principles state never received mortal
bodies. This belief though held for many years that they were cursed with the skin
of the Negro.
- Mormons believe in Baptism of the Dead. They don’t believe in Baptism of Children
according to the Book of Moroni as stated on page 132 of Gospel Principles, since
they have no sin, and can’t respond. But they logically believe in the Baptism of
the Dead, as defined on page 377 of Gospel Principles.
-Mormons believe in degrees of glory as stated on page 297-298 of Gospel Principles.
Celestial-Where the truly obedient go to upon their death. Terrestrial-Those who
rejected the Gospel on Earth, but received it in the spirit world. Telestial-These
people will reside in hell till the Millennium. For they never received the
testimony of Jesus on earth or in the spirit world. The final level is the Outer
Darkness where people gave in to the temptations of Satan, and didn’t live a holy
enough life. They will live with Satan forever. These doctrines shockingly aren’t
based on the Bible, but on the writing Doctrine and Covenants 76.
-Mormonism believes we have the power to develop the divine qualities of our
heavenly parents as stated on page 11 of the Gospel Principles. Page 14 of Gospel
Principles even talks about God’s plan that we may become like him. There is also a
mother God, along with the father God that we were born out of in our spiritual
bodies. I’ve also read that Joseph Smith believes that God originated from a Man
that had achieved a level of goodness on another planet. So this shows our
potential to become Gods- http://www.carm.org/lds/lds_doctrines.htm- Number 6
-Mormonism denies the Trinity. Mormonism will speak of God as three distinct
persons. When speaking about the levels of Heaven in 297-298. They speak of how
only the highest level is visited by all three members of the Godhead. How God the
Father doesn’t visit the second level, and how the Holy Spirit only visits the
third. Thereby stating the Godhead is three separate beings. You never find in
Gospel Principles any talk of God the heavenly father, being the same as Christ the
son, and the Holy Spirit. When Gospel Principles uses the term God it is always
referring to God the father.
-Mormonism believes as stated on page 113 of Gospel Principles that they have
restored the truth of the Gospel. Warning Heresy ahead!!!!
1. That God is a real person with flesh and bones.
2. Our pre-mortal existence. One good thing about Mormonism is that they are
consistently Pro-Life since they believe the soul is pre-mortal.
3. The Priesthood is necessary to reveal God’s ordinances. This is because the
truths of scriptures aren’t clear without priesthood.
4. Family relationships can be eternal through the power of God’s ordinances.
5. Temple ordinances such as Baptism apply to the living and the dead. This is
assuming that God isn’t in control of the dead, but has to wait for our own actions
like re-baptism.
One good thing about Mormons is that they do practice traditional marriage since
when a man marries women they are together in the eternal kingdom. This pretty
much explains why they reject enlightened approaches to sexuality.
Mormonism is an unbiblical false system of beliefs. This is a heresy that
Christians will have to confront in the future, due to the growth of Mormonism.
