Matthew 19 and Mark 10 texts
People say these texts deal with Divorce, not Homosexuality. But let's actually look at what these texts say in regard to Marriage, and how might they relate to Homosexuality.
. Matthew 19
*Speaks of how God created Male and Female seperately. How Male and Females are to be united in Marriage, thereby making two one flesh. So let Man not seperate what God has created in Marriage. This seems to not leave open any discussion of what consistutes acceptable sexual behavior.
Jesus reached out to Tax Collectors, Sinners, and Women in a radical way. How come Jesus in his radical nature never sought to address this issue?
Jesus in verse 8 states what breaks up marriage is due to human sin. So anything that breaks up Marriage between one man and one woman is rooted in Sin.
These passages state Jesus' view on Marriage pretty clearly. Some might say well it condemns Divorce. Yet, we welcome Divorced people in our Church. Well a few points
1. No one ever says Divorce is a good thing, and that it is to blessed.
2. No one would ever say the circumstances that lead to Divorce are a good thing.
3. No one constantly engages in Divorce, Divorce is not a continual lifestyle.
4. A Pastor with mulitple divorces probably wouldn't be hired in most Congreations.
I will comment Saturday on the final vote of the ELCA asssembly. The reasons 1. I am going to Roy Harrisville's. 2. The Vikings play their pre-season opener, so I am going to cook up Some Swedish Meatballs and enjoy the game, before worrying about this.
